You might say that I field tested this jacket. I am in Dresden Germany where the weather has been rather cold, rainy, and snowy. This jacket with a light to medium layering has performed excellently. Even through the rain, the jacket was wet on the outside, but not on the inside. It is easy to pack and definitely provides adequate warmth in temps below -3 Celsius. My only negative comment is that the zipper has to be more heavy duty. It was stuck a few times in taking the jacket off. This was a good purchase.
